History and Heritage

The Courtyard Episkopi is located in the centre of the historic Episkopi village. Episkopi is built on the foothill of ancient Kourion, at a height of 60 meters, about 14 km west of the city of Limassol close to the west bank of the river Kouris and overlooking the bay of Kourion. The name Episkopi means "home of the bishop" and comes from the fact that when the nearby site of Kourion (Curium) was abandoned in the 7th century, the bishop moved his seat here and Episkopi succeeded Kourion as a center of the region. The archaeological findings, found in almost the entire area of the community, reveal the connection to the city of Kourion.

The original building of the Courtyard Episkopi was built more than one century ago and is in the procession of our family for decades. Previously named as "the village inn", the property previously held a restaurant established by our late father and grandfather Christofis who was a well-known archeologist in the area, involved in the restoration of the Kourion and the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates archeological sites under the lead of American Archeologist George McFadden. McFadden's house is now the Kourion Archaeological Museum which is located just 50m from the porperty. In the years leading up to its recent renovation and conversion into apartments, the property was widely recognized for hosting events in the indoor courtyard, such as weddings, christenings, and more.
